Biographical Sketch of Rev. Dr. Elmore Torbert, Jr.

Rev. Dr. Elmore Torbert Jr., is the Pastor-Elect of St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church,Cleveland, OH. A native of Flint, MI., and a graduate of Beecher High School. He attended Alabama State University for 2 years when he heeded the call to pursue ministry. Immediately, Pastor Torbert enrolled in American Baptist College in Nashville, TN., where he is a double alum. He received his bachelor's degree in Sociology & Christian Education and later his Master's Degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling.

Pastor Torbert enrolled in Sewanee's School of Theology in Sewanee, TN., and received his Master of Divinity degree from this prominent Episcopalian Theological Seminary. It was here that Pastor Torbert focused on New Testament Theology and Hermeneutics and became a New Testament Scholar. Next, he enrolled in Memphis Theological Seminary and has completed all his coursework and will complete his dissertation for a proposed graduation date of December 2023.

Pastor Torbert has used his knowledge to aid and assist others. He has taught at Motlow Community College, located in Smyrna, TN., and currently is working in the Religious Studies Department of Tennessee State University. Pastor Torbert draws off his personal experiences and the death of his wife and the unfortunate divorce from his second wife to assist others to find hope and healing within their marriages, relationships and losses. He established a Pastoral Mental Health Therapy Practice in Tennessee for more than 2 years professionally and over 10 years as part of his seminary practicum.

He has served as the President of the Tennessee Baptist Missionary &; Education (TBM&E) State Congress, Vice President of the TBM&E Middle Regional and the Moderator for the Elk River District Association.

Pastor Torbert is the father of 2 children, Aaron 26 & Sheena 24 and he enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
